New H7N9 case reported

The Guangdong Province Health & Family Planning Commission has notified the Center for Health Protection of a confirmed human case of avian influenza A (H7N9) affecting a 39-year-old man in Dongguan.
The man is being treated in a local hospital and is in critical condition. The relevant Mainland health authority's test was positive for H7N9 virus, and the diagnosis was confirmed today.
Fifty-three of his close contacts have been put under medical surveillance. No abnormalities were found so far.
To date, 141 human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) have been confirmed in the Mainland, including Zhejiang (51 cases), Shanghai (33 cases), Jiangsu (28 cases), Jiangxi (six cases), Fujian (five cases), Anhui (four cases), Henan (four cases), Shandong (two cases), Hunan (two cases), Beijing (two cases), Guangdong (three cases), and Hebei (one case).
The centre is monitoring the situation and maintaining close liaison with the Mainland health authorities for case details, as well as keeping updated on the latest advice from the World Health Organisation.
