The fifth-generation jet fighters are the most advanced fighters in the world. Their most commonly shared characteristics are stealth, supersonic cruise speed, superb maneuverability and superior avionics for both battle awareness and effectiveness. The U.S. Air Force's F-22 Raptor, which entered service in 2005, is the only fully-operational fifth-generation jet fighter. Here follows the list of the world's 11 fifth-generation fighters either in active service or with flying prototypes at this moment.
