Brazil Receives Medical Kits to Diagnose A/H1N1 Flu

Brazil received late Wednesday medical kits from the United States which will allow a faster diagnosis of the suspected cases of A/H1N1 flu in the country, local media reported on Thursday.
Brazil's health ministry said that the medical kits will be distributed to laboratories in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, as well as Belem, in northern Brazil.
With the new kits, the results of the flu diagnosis will be known in up to three days. So far, the diagnosis process takes up to 15 days to be completed.
Four cases of A/H1N1 flu have been confirmed till now in Brazil. According to the latest figure from the ministry, the country now has 26 suspected cases of the flu.
The ministry classifies a person as a suspected case of H1N1 flu when he/she shows symptoms of the H1N1 flu virus less than 10days after arriving from a country affected by the infectious disease.
Another 15 cases are also being closely monitored by the ministry.
Twenty-four countries have officially reported 2,371 cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection as of 18:00 GMT on Thursday, according to the latest update of the World Health Organization (WHO).
