Shi Jindong is another peacekeeper waiting to go to Haiti. He fears there might not be enough time to bid farewell to the 8 Chinese officers who were killed in the earthquake.
Shi said, "I can't go to the farewell ceremony. I'll try to honor them with hard work."
Shi Jindong was planning to get married during China's spring festival. But the assignment has postponed his schedule. He is expressing no regrets, however, adding that responsibility and honor trump everything.
He Guangwei, psychiatrist |
Another peacekeeper packing for the trip is a psychiatrist. For him, the mission is all about psychological assistance.
He Guangwei, Chinese peacekeeper, said, "Officers could be shot during a mission, and they have to endure mental stress from the quake's aftermath, plus the grief of losing comrades. My job is to ensure their mental well-being."
