12 killed as truck crashes into houses, vehicles in Indonesia

JAKARTA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12 people were killed and scores of others injured after a truck crashed into houses, shops, and vehicles in Central Java province of Indonesia, a police officer said on Monday.

The truck allegedly suffering from brake failure swerved to avoid collision and crashed into six houses, one shop, 19 motorcycles and two cars in Jatisawit village of Brebes district, senior police officer at directorate of traffic management in the province Bakharuddin said.

The truck loaded with sugar was on its way from Purwerejo to Jakarta city, according to the police.

All the injured have been rushed to hospital, the officer was quoted by local media as saying. Enditem
