Kenyan stocks gain lifts key indices

NAIROBI, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan shares gained on Monday to lift the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) up but equity turnover remained unchanged.

The NSE 20 Share Index went up 11.76 points to close the day at 3,735.06 ahead of the May Day holiday from 3,723.30 in the previous session.

Some of the stocks whose prices increased by between 0.5 percent and 4 percent to raise the benchmark index include Kenya Power, Safaricom, Centum, Nation Media Group Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Equity Bank.

Turnover stood at 7.4 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 23 million shares, from 21 million shares worth the same value on Friday last week.

The All Share Index (NASI) ended the session at 179.53 from 179.48 while the NSE 25 Share index closed at 4,700.38 from 4,693.87.

The most-traded stocks were Safaricom moving 9.9 million shares, followed by Equity Bank 5.5 million, KCB 1.8 million, Kengen 1.3 million and Britam 807,500. Enditem
