NEW DELHI, April 19 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and another one injured Thursday after a car skidded off a mountainous road and fell into gorge in northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, officials said.

The accident took place near Ranvi village of Chopal sub division in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.

"Six people were killed while one person was injured when a vehicle carrying them skidded off the road into a 400-feet-deep gorge near Ranvi village here," said a local government official posted in Shimla district.

"We received reports that five people were killed on spot, while as another person succumbed to injuries in hospital."

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain reasons behind the accident.

Last week 30 people, including 27 school children, were killed when a school bus plunged into a deep gorge in the state.
