BEIJING -- China's major stock indices closed higher Thursday, led by the environmental protection and nonferrous metals sectors.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.84 percent to close at 3,117.38. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.02 percent higher at 10,598.35.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday on Wall Street's overnight lead, with investors relieved that the outcome of a Japan-U.S. summit held in Florida met with market expectations.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 32.98 points, or 0.15 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,191.18, marking its highest closing level since Feb. 27.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 0.51 points, or 0.03 percent, to end at 1,750.18.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 424.190 points, or 1.400 percent, to 30,708.441 points on Thursday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,451.002 and 30,761.469. Turnover totaled 114.90 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 14.64 billion U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 23.38 points, or 1.32 percent to close at 1,794.94 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,895.18 up 15.86 points or 0.84 percent, and the Emas was at 13,235.95 up 98.75 points or 0.75 percent.
Turnover increased to 2.52 billion shares valued at 2.69 billion ringgit Malaysia (693.29 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.34 billion shares valued at 1.97 billion ringgit Malaysia (507.73 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) wend up 1.15 percent or 40.91 points to close at 3598.73.
A total of 1.58 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.38 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.05 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 243 to 182.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 5843.00 points, up 20.47 points from Wednesdays finish.
