JERUSALEM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army on Tuesday issued the initial inquiry into a video of a sniper shooting a Palestinian.
The video was filmed on Friday afternoon, during violent riots in the area of Kissufim, adjacent to the Gaza Strip, said the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the video depicts a short part of the response to a violent riot, which included rock hurling and attempts to sabotage the security fence, and lasted about two hours.
During the riot, verbal warnings and firing warning gunshots were used to disperse the crowd, said the Israeli military.
After none of these were successful, a single bullet was fired towards one of the Palestinians who is suspected of organizing and leading this incident, while he was a few meters from the fence. He was hit in the leg and injured, said the IDF.
The video was filmed by a soldier who was not part of the unit of the soldiers who fired the shot, added the IDF.
After completing the full operational inquiry by the relevant commanders, its findings will be submitted, as is customary, to the Military Advocate General's Office, said the Israeli army.
The soldier who filmed the video will be dealt with by his commanders for unauthorized filming of an operational event, added the IDF. Enditem
