Green light for 20 mln USD cyber center in London's Olympic Park

Xinhua,April 11, 2018 Adjust font size:

LONDON, April 10 (Xinhua) -- A cyber center costing almost 20 million U.S. dollars is to be developed in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the British government announced Tuesday

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said the new center will be a catalyst for growing tech cluster, creating 2,000 jobs in cyber security.

Digital and the Culture Minister Margot James, said: "This new center in the Olympic Park will build on the site's legacy of excellence and spark a wave of creativity to develop the cyber security technology of the future and help protect the nation's industry."

DCMS said the London Cyber Innovation Center will boost the thriving East London digital cluster and spur the development of cutting-edge technology to keep Britain safe from online threats.

A department spokesperson said that in 2017 a tech company was formed every hour in London. The new center will act as a catalyst for startups, and help Britain increase its slice of the global cyber security industry forecast to be worth 98 billion U.S. dollars in 2018.

The new center will be funded by DCMS as part of the government's five-year, 2.7-billion-dollar investment to keep Britain safe online.

DCMS said Plexal, which operates London's largest innovation space, will run the new center and partner with the Center for Secure Information Technologies at Queen's University Belfast. Enditem
