Xinhua,April 11, 2018 Adjust font size:

KIEV, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and they agreed to hold a large-scale Ukrainian-German business forum in the near future, the presidential press service said in a statement.

At the talks in Berlin, Poroshenko and Merkel have agreed that the forum, which is set to be held in Ukraine, will promote the economic cooperation between the two countries.

Poroshenko also voiced his hope that during the forum, Ukraine will show its investment potential and attract fresh capital injections from German business.

The event will also contribute to boosting bilateral trade between the countries, the Ukrainian leader added.

For her part, Merkel said that many representatives of the German government will visit Ukraine to participate in the forum.

Last year, the goods trade between Ukraine and Germany increased 14.4 percent to 6.44 billion U.S. dollars.

In January-October of 2017, Germany has invested 1.8 billion dollars into the Ukrainian economy, becoming one of the largest investors in the East European country.

Poroshenko arrived in Berlin on Monday for a two-day working visit. Enditem
