KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian voters will go to the polls on May 9 in the country's general elections, said the Election Commission of Malaysia on Tuesday, days after Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the dissolution of the parliament.

Mohd Hashim bin Abdullah, chairman of Election Commission, at the press conference also announced the nomination date, which falls on April 28. After nomination day, candidates will have 11 days for their campaign.(Malaysia-Elections)

TOKYO -- A secretary of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe allegedly informed local officials that a project to open a veterinary school in Ehime Prefecture is a "matter concerning the prime minister," local accounts said Tuesday, citing a document on the matter.

According to Kyodo News, senior officials from the prefecture said they found the document on a visit to Abe's office in 2015.(Japan-Abe-Scandal)

HO CHI MINH CITY -- An Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) conference on climate change response toward sustainable development will be held on June 19-20 in Vietnam's southern Can Tho city, the municipal authorities said Tuesday.

NEW DELHI -- At least 18 people were killed and 15 others injured Tuesday after a goods truck carrying laborers hit a road divider in western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said.

The accident took place on Pune-Satara highway near Khandala in Pune district about 81 km east of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.(India-Collision)

MANILA -- Seventeen inmates at a police jail in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines escaped before dawn on Tuesday, local police said.

Police Senior Superintendent Vincent Neri Ignacio of the Zamboanga City said 12 of the 17 inmates were recaptured a few hours after the jailbreak. Five escapists are being hunted down.(Philippines-Jailbreak) Enditem
