Majority of Greek parents allows kids under 13 to use social media: survey

ATHENS, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Most Greek parents allow children under the age of 13 to use social media, according to a survey released on Monday.
In a poll carried out by the Greek Safer Internet Center of the Crete-based Foundation for Research and Technology, 56 percent of the survey's 1,100 respondents said they gave the green light to their kids to use the Internet, despite reservations about safe surfing.
A total of 70 percent of parents aged up to 35 years also said they used social media on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, 79 percent of participants in the survey said their children had not asked for help regarding any problems they had encountered on social media.
As many as 65 percent of respondents were confident that their underage children had taken measures to protect their personal data, while 19 percent gave a negative answer, and 16 percent said they did not know.
Finally, 89 percent of participants said they were certain their kids had not suffered cyber bullying, while 7 percent of respondents said they did not know and 3.4 percent said that their children had been victims of bullying on social media. Enditem
