WELLINGTON, March 23 (Xinhua) -- A farm manager of New Zealand's Golden Bay has been convicted after being found guilty of ill-treating cows in his care, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) said on Friday.

Steven John Wells, 45 years old, a farm manager at Maratoa Farm near Takaka in New Zealand's South Island, was convicted of six counts under the Animal Welfare Act after a four-day trial in the Nelson District Court last week, according to a MPI statement.

His offending took place in 2015 and 2016 when he broke the tails of cows, hit them with a metal pipe, kicked them, kneed them, and punched them, it said, adding that Wells will be sentenced on April 30. Enditem
