Singapore stocks close 2 pct lower

SINGAPORE, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 2 percent or 69.98 points to close at 3421.39.

A total of 1.9 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.85 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.41 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 377 to 84.

The STI index closed down 0.56 percent or 19.76 points to close at 3491.37 on Thursday. Enditem
