HEFEI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A former senior provincial official stood trial Wednesday in east China's Anhui Province, accused of accepting bribes totaling 12 million yuan (1.9 million U.S. dollars).

Yang Jingnong, former secretary-general of the Anhui provincial government, was charged with taking the bribes himself or together with others between 1993 and 2013 when he served as provincial foreign trade official, deputy head of the provincial commerce department and mayor of Wuhu City.

He allegedly took advantage of his posts to seek interests for others in land seizures and promotion, heard Ma'anshan City Intermediate People's Court.

Yang pleaded guilty and showed remorse in court.

The court will announce the verdict on a later date. Enditem
