RIYADH, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi Presidency of State Security announced on Tuesday that a local terror fugitive was killed in a crossfire, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The Saudi fugitive, who was wanted in several terror crimes in Al Qatif region in the Eastern Province, shot at the security personnel when the police tried to stop his car, and was then killed in the crossfire.

The statement confirmed that no policemen or passersby were injured, while a Kalashnikov, a pistol, bullets and four masks were seized from his car.

The statement confirmed the police would arrest the remaining fugitives as part of the counterterrorism efforts.

Al Qatif region witnesses on-and-off violence and terrorist attacks against police personnel by Shiite groups that demand more rights in the Sunni conservative state. Enditem
