Vienna airport sees record 24.4 mln passengers in 2017

Xinhua,January 17, 2018 Adjust font size:

VIENNA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Vienna International Airport saw a record 24.4 million passengers pass through its terminals in 2017, administrator the Flughafen Wien Group said on Tuesday.

The 4.5 percent increase in passenger numbers marks the first time the 24-million-mark has been surpassed at the airport, the country's largest.

The collapse of airlines Air Berlin and Austrian subsidiary Niki was responsible for a drop in passenger numbers, though this was compensated for by growth generated by Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, and easyJet.

The Flughafen Wien Group said it expects a further 3 percent growth in passenger numbers at the airport in 2018.

The two other airports run by the group, in Malta and Kosice, also saw strong passenger growth, taking the total passenger numbers at all three airports run by the group to 30.9 million, a 6.9 percent increase.

It expects this figure to increase a further 5 percent this year. Enditem
