LUSAKA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has urged the Judiciary to guard itself against capture by some clever people, saying he has observed a systematic slow-motion take-over.

The Zambian leader said that even though the Judiciary in the country was independent and an institution with integrity, moves to capture it like what was happening in other countries was slowly creeping into the country. (Times of Zambia)

-- Five insurance firms will have their operating licenses suspended this year following their failure to meet the required minimum capital requirement whose deadline was on October 31, 2017, the insurance regulator has said.

The Pensions and Insurance Authority said the companies were currently being assessed and that a decision will soon be made on whether to give them sometime to raise the funds or undergo possible mandatory liquidation. (Daily Nation)

-- Six experts in cholera control from the United States are in Zambia to work with health authorities on cholera prevention and control activities.

The United States embassy said the experts, who include epidemiologists, were providing lab support to analyze clinical samples and conducting testing of water sources in order to identify risk factors. (The Mast) Enditem
