Ghana's Dec. consumer inflation inches up to 11.8 pct

ACCRA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's consumer price inflation inched up 0.1 percentage points to 11.8 percent year-on-year in December, from 11.7 percent in the previous month, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) said Wednesday.

By this, the government's year-end inflation target of 11.2 percent was missed by a 0.6 percentage points.

"While food inflation inched up by 0.1 percentage points to 8.0 percent in December from the 7.9 percent recorded for November, non-food inflation rate remained at the November rate of 13.6 percent in December," Baah Wadieh, Acting Government Statistician, announced.

Although the Ghanaian government projected last year that its tax measures, by lowering prices, would result in achieving its inflation target at the end of last year, the implementation met with teething challenges, leading to their withdrawal, while price increases also continued albeit at a lower rate last year.
