LUANDA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to visit Angola on Friday and meet with President Joao Lourenco, said a statement issued by the Angolan President's Civil Affairs Office on Wednesday.

During the 24-hour visit, the Zimbabwean leader is expected to brief his Angolan counterpart on the political situation in his country, said the statement.

Mnangagwa will also discuss with Lourenco on issues related to the preparations of presidential elections to legitimize the ongoing transition in that southern African country, it added.

The Angolan president is the current chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC)'s Organ for Politics, Defense and Security.

Mnangagwa took office on November 24, 2017 as President of Zimbabwe after the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe. Enditem
