National power outage hits Sudan due to technical fault

Xinhua,January 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

KHARTOUM, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- A complete power outage on Wednesday hit all Sudan's states due to a technical fault, according to National Electricity Network Control Center.

"The National Electricity Network Control Center notes to occurrence of a full shutdown for the network," the center said in a statement.

"Operations are going on to restore the network and connect the electricity generating stations. The power will gradually be restored," it added.

The power outage coincided with a speech by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir from Al-Rusaires town in Blue Nile State, where Al-Rusaires dam, one of the most important electricity producing dams in Sudan, is located.

Sudan's national electricity network suffers power outages from time to time.

In May 2015, a technical fault on the carrying line between Khartoum and Merowe left the country in a complete blackout.

In February 2017, most parts of Sudan experienced full electricity blackout due to a technical fault in the automatic protection system. Enditem
