PHNOM PENH -- The 2nd Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting wrapped up here on Wednesday with leaders from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam adopting the Phnom Penh Declaration and the Five-Year Plan of Action (2018-2022).

In the declaration, the leaders stressed the vision and importance of the LMC in contributing to the socio-economic development of sub-regional countries and enhancing the well-being of their peoples, narrowing the development gap among countries, supporting the ASEAN Community building as well as advancing South-South cooperation and enhancing the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. TOKYO -- Japan lodged a protest with South Korea on Wednesday over President Moon Jae-in's remarks suggesting that Japan untie an "erroneous knot" over the "comfort women" issue by sincerely apologizing to the victims.

Kenji Kanasugi, director general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, told a senior official from the South Korean Embassy in Tokyo that Moon's remarks are "unacceptable," Kyodo News here quoted a ministry source as saying Wednesday. SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump saw possibility for the ongoing talks between South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leading to a dialogue between the United States and the DPRK, multiple local media reports said Wednesday.

Moon and Trump had a telephone conversation for about half an hour from 10 p.m. local time (1300 GMT), agreeing to strengthen cooperation between the two allies, according to local media citing Seoul's presidential Blue House. (S. Korea-U.S.-DPRK Talks)

ISLAMABAD -- At least two people were killed and three others injured in police aerial firing as protests turned violent against the rape and murder of a minor girl in Pakistan's eastern province of Punjab on Wednesday, local media reported.

According to the reports, a large number of protesters carrying sticks in their hands have gathered outside the deputy commissioner office, demanding justice for the seven-year-old girl. They pelted stones at the office. Police fired bullets in the air to disperse the protesters. (Pakistan-Protest) Enditem
