CAPE TOWN, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Saturday.

-- Uncertainty over the death toll in the Kroonstad train crash in Free State Province is probably due to the state of some of the bodies of the victims, the Free State Health Department said on Friday, affirming that the death toll currently stood at 14.

"Some bodies are burnt beyond recognition. The limbs were separated," spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said. (News24)

-- African National Congress (ANC) National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe on Friday acknowledged that the ANC was fractured by bitter leadership struggles in the build-up to its 54th national congress last month.

He lashed out at internal party weakness, including the Youth League which he said is entangled in factional politics. (South African Broadcasting Corporation)

-- Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa said on Friday it expects to conclude the clearing up of the Free State train crash by the end of Saturday.
