UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday announced the appointment of Dmitry Titov of Russia to lead a special investigation into recent attacks on peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The investigation will include a focus on the Dec. 7 attack, in which 15 Tanzanian peacekeepers were killed, 43 wounded and one remains missing, said the UN press service in a statement. (UN-DRC-Probe)

RIYADH -- Saudi police have arrested 11 princes for protesting at the ruling palace in Riyadh and refusing to leave, sources confirmed to Sabq local online news on Saturday.

The princes protested over the decision of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to stop the government from paying the power and water bills of princes and they asked for compensation for the execution of a prince last year who was convicted in a murder case. (Saudi-Arrest of princes)

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- At least four policemen were killed and two others wounded Saturday after militants triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The IED blast targeted the policemen in Sopore town of Baramulla district, about 50 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. (India-Kashmir-Blast)

ASSADABAD, Afghanistan -- A Taliban key commander and three of his armed fighters were killed after their explosive device went off prematurely in the eastern Kunar province on Friday night, provincial Police Chief Juma Gul Humat said Saturday.

"Taliban key commander Mubarak Shah alias Jahan along with three of his men was busy in making mine in a house in Narai district on Friday night when the device exploded accidentally, killing all the four on the spot," Humat told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Blast-Militants) Enditem
