ANTANANARIVO, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Madagascar's president Hery Rajaonarimampianina said on Friday that the country's poverty rate dropped to 70 percent in 2017, down from 92 percent in 2013.

He listed the cut in poverty as one of the achievements made under his leadership during Friday's presentation of the traditional presidential New Year greeting.

Rajaonarimampianina called on his compatriots to stand up and unite their strength to develop Madagascar.
