40 soccer fans injured as fence collapses at Gulf Cup final

KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- About 40 fans of the Omani soccer team were injured when a fence collapsed at Kuwaiti Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium following the final match of the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup tournament late on Friday.

"About 40 persons were slightly injured. They have been transported to 3 hospitals," said Anas Al-Saleh, deputy prime minister and minister of state for cabinet affairs. He is also chairman of the championship organizing committee.

The accident happened when the Omani spectators over-reacted with their team winning the championship of the Gulf Cup.

Oman won the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup on Friday by beating the United Arab Emirates in penalty shootout 5-4. Enditem
