Zambian leader fires minister

Xinhua,December 28, 2017 Adjust font size:

LUSAKA, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Wednesday fired one of his ministers in unclear circumstances.

Amos Chanda, the presidential spokesperson, said in a terse statement that the Zambian leader has terminated the services of Lucky Mulusa who was Minister of National Development Planning and revoked his nomination as Member of Parliament.

The statement, however, did not state the reasons behind the termination of the services.

In October, Mulusa attracted the wrath of ruling party supporters when he likened 42 fire tenders the government had purchased at 42 million U.S. dollars, which caused public outrage, to wheelbarrows.

This forced some members of the ruling party to write a petition to the Zambian leader to press for his sacking. Enditem
