EU's Mogherini visits Lebanon to reaffirm partnership, support

Xinhua,December 20, 2017 Adjust font size:

BEIRUT, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) High Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini arrived Tuesday in Lebanon for talks with top officials, reaffirming partnership with and support for Beirut, said an EU statement.

The senior EU official's second visit here this year shows "the EU's strong and long-standing partnership with Lebanon," the statement added.

The EU "will continue to support Lebanon in meeting the challenges that lie ahead, and remain committed to the country's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity," it said.

Mogherini will meet with Prime Minister Saad Hariri Tuesday evening for talks on "the latest developments in Lebanon and the region and means to support Lebanon in the face of the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis."

The EU official and Hariri will then hold a joint press conference to talk about the outcome of the meeting.

Mogherini is also scheduled to meet with President Michel Aoun and Speaker Nabih Berri during the visit. Enditem
