XINING, China, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese women curlers stole their winning point in the last end to beat Canada 8-7 on Tuesday, ranking second after Russia in the nine-team tournament of the Qinghai International Curling Elite.
After both sides fought tit for tat to tie 7-all through the first nine ends, China tossed first in the 10th and last end where skip Wang Bingyu swirled her last stone into the house to steal the winning point.
"It was a difficult match. Canada played very well, we did not have any advantage in the first ends, and also made small mistakes, but we never gave up," said Wang, "Before the last toss, it looked not so good for us, so why don't we just keep calm and fight for it?"
Wang explained that it was their tactics together with their calmness that helped them grab the hard-fought victory in the last end.
In the men's actions on Tuesday evening, China beat Russia 9-4 and Switzerland edged Canada 11-10. China and Switzerland, together with Scotland, shared the top spot after eight rounds, with the last round slated on Wednesday.
The semifinals will be held on Dec. 21. Enditem
