Johannesburg bourse closes higher

JOHANNESBURG, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Prices of most shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed higher on Monday, with the all-share index surging 0.51 percent to 57,707.42 points.

The blue-chip top 40 gained 0.14 percent to 51,026.84 points. Banks and financials gained 5.21 percent and 4.49 percent respectively.

FirstRand was up 6.93 percent to R59.89, Standard Bank 4.38 percent to R185, and Barclays Africa 5.97 percent to R171.5.

Sanlam rose 7.47 percent to R84.69, MMI Holdings 2.37 percent to R20.27. Remgro was up 3.76 percent to R226 and PSG Group recouped 6.82 percent to R260.

Steinhoff gained 5.6 percent to R8.48. Woolworths was up 4.83 percent to R60.96, Truworths 1.94 percent to R85.97 and Shoprite 3.47 percent to R218.

Naspers lost 2.11 percent to R3,240.

Tiger Brands was up 1.9 percent to R433.74 and Pioneer Foods 1.63 percent to R133.10.

Vodacom was up 4.42 percent to R148 and EOH 10.5 percent to R68.4. Enditem
