MADRID, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Bilbao defender Yeray Alavarez will return to action after six months fighting against cancer when he plays in an Under-23 game against Swansea in the Premier League Cup on Wednesday, his club have confirmed.

The Spain Under-21 international has not played since May 21st and in June he had to pull out of the Spain Under-21 squad after it was discovered he had suffered a relapse of the testicular cancer which was first detected on December 23rd, 2016 and operated on several days later.

The 22-year-old began a course of chemotherapy in September, although he continued to train at a lower rhythm than his team-mates, before returning to work with the rest of the squad at the end of November.

If all goes well on Wednesday, Yeray now looks likely to return to Liga Santander action in the New Year. Enditem
