Suspect arrested after two Civil Guards, civilian killed in NE Spain

Xinhua,December 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

MADRID, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A man suspected of shooting and killing two Civil Guards and a person who was accompanying them in northeastern Spain late Thursday has been detained, police sources informed Friday.

The killer has been identified as a former soldier from an "eastern European country" and was arrested at around 5 a.m. local time between the towns of Cantavieja and Mirambel, close to the border of the provinces of Teruel and Castellon, according to police.

Civil Guards, Victor Romero Perez and Victor Jesus Caballero and Jose Luis Iranzo, a local farmer, were killed at a farm near the village of Albalate del Arzobispo, Teruel as they were searching for a suspected robber.

A wide cordon was sealed off following Thursday's shooting after the killer escaped in a pick-up truck.

The Association of Civil Guards has organized a minute's silence to be held outside all of their barracks in Spain as a mark of respect for the two comrades. Enditem
