Search starts for world building of 2018, six China projects in running

LONDON, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Six projects from China are in the running for one of the world's most prestigious architecture awards, given by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The six are among a list of 62 buildings from 28 countries and regions competing for the 2018 RIBA International Prize.

The award will be made what an esteemed judging panel considers the most transformative building which demonstrates visionary, innovative thinking, excellence of execution, and makes a distinct contribution to its users and physical context.

Announcing the list of contenders, RIBA said the 2018 longlist entries were exemplars of "design excellence, architectural ambition and delivering meaningful social impact".

"The prize brings international attention to the most inspirational and significant new buildings created across the globe but also to a range of the industry's leading talents, and the visionary clients that have commissioned these buildings, said RIBA in London.

RIBA President Ben Derbyshire said the list shone a light on the world's best new buildings and most impressive architectural talent.

He said: "Most importantly, this significant selection of 62 projects illustrates the meaningful impact and transformative quality that well-designed buildings can have on communities, wherever they are in the world."

RIBA's International Prize, awarded every two years, is run in conjunction with Union Internationale des Architectes. The winner will be picked by a grand jury and announced in December next year. Enditem
