Kenya's Rono eyes Lagos Marathon win despite dismal show in Guangzhou

Xinhua,December 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

NAIROBI, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Georgina Rono will be among the top names at the Lagos Marathon on February 10, 2018 despite a poor performance at the Guangzhou Marathon.

Organizers have confirmed that Rono, who holds a personal best time of 2:24:33 will come up against strong challenge from Ethiopia's Azalech Masresha (2:25:34).

"The conditions in Guangzhou did not favor me and I got fatigued. However, I am certain that I will be in top form ahead of the Lagos marathon," said Rono Wednesday in Nairobi.

Rono has been struggling with injury for the last two seasons, but looked to have outlived it this year as she has competed and remained injury free.

Her career best of 2:24:33 has remained a mountain for her to climb and improve since she set it in 2011 at the Eindhoven Marathon in the Netherlands.

"My focus is to improve on that time and hopefully Lagos, which is at sea level, will provide me with that chance," she said. Enditem
