Afghan forces kill 9 IS militants in eastern province

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nine militants of IS terrorist group were killed and four others injured in Nangarhar province, east of Afghanistan, on Sunday, a local official said Monday.

"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been involved in a cordon and cleanup operation in Khogyani district recently. On Sunday, sporadic clashes occurred between security forces and IS fighters and nine IS militants were killed and four others injured on that day," Attaullah Khogyani, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua.

Several villages were also cleared from IS militants' presence in Khogyani within the past couple of days and various weapons and ammunition were also seized by security forces, the spokesman added.

The IS militants have not make any comments on the report so far. Enditem
