Xinhua,December 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

NEW DELHI, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and 18 others injured in a road accident in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, police said Monday.

"The accident occurred when a vehicle carrying more than 20 passengers overturned at Dodru in the state's Hamirpur district Sunday evening," a police official said.

While two persons died on the spot in the impact of the crash, the 18 others injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital by local residents, he said.

"Five of the injured were later shifted to the Medical College and Hospital at Tanada as their condition are said to be serious," the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.

India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles. Enditem
