4 killed, 4 injured as truck overturns in western India

NEW DELHI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have been killed and four others injured after a truck overturned in the western Indian state of Gujarat, police said Sunday.

The accident occurred on Old Saroli Road in the state's Surat town.

"The truck carrying laborers turned turtle after the driver lost control of the vehicle. While four died on the spot, the injured were admitted to a local hospital," a police official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said. "The driver of the truck will be booked for rash and negligent driving," the official added.

India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles. Enditem
