BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Beijingers spent over 65 minutes reading per day on average in 2017, with "an hour of daily reading" becoming the norm, an annual report showed Thursday.
About 21 minutes of reading time was spent on printed materials, while about 44 minutes were spent reading digitally, according to a survey of Beijingers aged between 7 and 70, by the Seventh Beijing Reading Festival.
Beijingers read an average of 10.97 printed books a year, which is more than the combined number of printed and electronic books read by the average Chinese person in a year (7.86).
Nearly 65 percent of residents in Beijing bought books at physical stores over the past year, up 2.91 percent on the previous year.
The survey also revealed the book preferences of Beijingers, with over 60 percent preferring books on self-improvement or those helpful to their work and study. Enditem
