More victim names engraved on Nanjing Massacre memorial wall

NANJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Twenty more names have been engraved on a memorial wall in commemoration of those massacred by Japanese invaders in east China's Nanjing in 1937.

It brought the number of names on the wall to 10,635, according to the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, where the wall stands.

Du Shaoqi was among those whose names were added to the wall.

"Many people were killed in the turmoil of war. But we still wish that my father could be alive. My mother waited for him for 29 years and died in grief," said Du Guangda, son of Du Shaoqi.

Du Guangda said that his father went missing during a trip to seek shelter 80 years ago, when Japanese troops occupied Nanjing. More than 300,000 unarmed Chinese soldiers and civilians were murdered.

The memorial wall was set up in 1995 with 3,000 names representing the 300,000 victims of the massacre.

More names were added between 2007 and 2016, after the identities of more victims were confirmed.

The names were confirmed by Nanjing Massacre investigation agencies, dictated or published documents of survivors and information from the relatives of victims. Enditem
