Danzhou Int'l Marathon to set off in Hainan on Dec.24

HAIKOU, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 2017 Hainan Danzhou International Marathon will start on Dec.24 in Danzhou city, South China's Hainan province, organizers said here on Thursday.

About 15,000 runners from both home and abroad are expected to compete in the race, vying for a total prize up to 640,000RMB (96,774 U.S. dollars).

The Hainan Danzhou International Marathon was first held in 2010. This year's event will be the 8th edition of its kind, and will feature three events: marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.0975km) and mini-marathon (5km).

Since Sep.20, more than 120,000 people have applied for the race and 50 professional athletes from countries like Ethiopia and Kenya are said to be coming as well. Enditem
