MOSCOW, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Russia will conduct "Vostok 2018" or "East 2018", the largest military drills to be held next year, in Siberia and the Russian Far East, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.

The Eastern and Central Military Districts and the Northern Fleet will participate in the drills in August and September, Shoigu said at a teleconference with senior military officers, according to a defense ministry statement.

Russia conducted more than 8,000 combat training activities this year, including "Zapad 2017" or "West 2017" -- joint exercises with Belarus in September. Enditem
