Kenya seeks strengthening of UN office in Nairobi

NAIROBI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday evening held talks with visiting United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Miroslav Lajcak on strengthening of the UN office in Nairobi.

Kenyatta in a statement issued after the meeting requested the President of the 72nd Session of UNGA to use his networks to help in the consolidation of UNEP and UN-Habitat headquarter functions in Nairobi.

"This will support the strengthening of UNEP and UN-Habitat in Nairobi," he said during the meeting with Lajcak who is in the country to attend the third session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), which officially opened on Monday.

More than 4,000 heads of state, ministers, business leaders, UN officials and civil society representatives are attending the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi to tackle the global menace of pollution as well as other issues relating to environmental conservation.

During the meeting, Lajcak assured Kenyatta that during his tenure as the President of 72nd Session, he will give the required support to bolster the UN office in Nairobi. Enditem
