Turkey detains over 2,000 over illegal border crossing

ANKARA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Turkish border troops detained Sunday 2,222 people for illegal border crossing, the Turkish military said on Monday.

About 2,131 people were held as they were attempting to enter illegally into Turkey from Syria, while 11 others were seized as they tried to cross the border into Syria, according to a statement released by Turkish General Staff.

Another 80 people were detained at the Greek border, 70 of them tried to illegally travel to Greece from Turkey, the military said. Enditem
