KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait on Sunday launched an aid program to help the disabled people and those with albinism in Tanzania.

The official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that the program, which costs 500,000 U.S. dollars, was launched Sunday to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons.

The program would last for one year in a number of Tanzanian cities including the Zanzibar Island, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Tanzania Jassim Al-Najim said.

It would be implemented in cooperation with non-governmental organizations and other international groups in Tanzania, he added.

The ambassador also presented at the launching ceremony to the Tanzanian side various medical equipment including wheelchairs and hearing aid devices.

The United Nations announced Dec. 3 as the International Day of Disabled Persons in 1992. Enditem
