Vietnam's Thach sweeps men's 56kg event at weightlifting worlds

ANAHEIM, United States, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Thach Kim Tuan from Vietnam swept snatch, clean and jerk and total golds in men's 56kg category at the 2017 world weightlifting championships held in Anaheim, the United States on Wednesday.

Thach, silver and bronze medalist at previous competitions, managed to stand on the highest place of the podium with a total of 279kg. The youth Olympics champion in 2014 also won the snatch gold with 126kg and clean and jerk on 153kg.

His compatriot Tran Le Quoc Toan, 5th place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games last year, got second in snatch and third in the clean and jerk which guaranteed him a second place finish in total.

Only 5th in snatch, Mingmoon Witoon of Thailand managed to come up second with 152kg in clean and jerk and won a bronze medal in total with 267kg.

With a great lift at 118kg in snatch, Josue Brachi Garcia Josue of Spain was awarded a snatch bronze. Enditem
