Venezuelan gov't has "high expectations" of dialogue with opposition

CARACAS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Venezuelan government is gearing up for a round of political dialogue with the opposition with "high expectations," a top official said on Wednesday.

"We are going with high expectations. It should be the mechanism for understanding between two sides with different views, in this case, we have divergent historical projects, a Bolivarian project and an anti-Bolivarian sellout project," Delcy Rodriguez, President of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), said on Twitter.

Earlier, Rodriguez met with Alfred-Maurice de Zayas, the United Nations' Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order, to explain Venezuelan government policies and the undertakings of the ANC.

De Zayas arrived in Caracas at the start of the week to assess the human rights situation, which has been riven by the power struggle between the ruling socialist party and the right-wing opposition, a battle marked by economic warfare and violent anti-government demonstrations.

De Zayas, a Cuban-born U.S. lawyer and human rights expert, is also set to meet with opposition leaders.

The talks between the government and the opposition will be held on Dec. 1 and 2 in the Dominican Republic with the participation of some foreign ministers of other countries. Enditem
