YANGON -- Four more bodies were uncovered from Monday's coal mine blast in Minbu, Myanmar's central Magway region, bringing the total death toll to six, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.

NEW DELHI -- A local court in India's western state of Maharashtra Wednesday sentenced three men to death for being convicted in rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl, officials said.

The men in their 20s in July last year raped the teenager in Kopardi village of Ahmednagar district, about 302 km east of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. (India-Crime)

KABUL -- Seventeen militants were killed and 19 others injured during the serious of operations conducted by Afghan security forces across the country over the past 24 hours, the defense ministry said Wednesday.

"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have carried out 13 clean up operations and 19 special operations in 10 provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result 17 insurgents were killed, 19 injured and four others arrested," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates. (Afghanistan-Fightings)

SEOUL -- South Korean military on Wednesday condemned the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s test-launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

The country's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement that the DPRK's ballistic missile launch was in a blatant violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and posed a grave threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the world. (S.Korea-DPRK-Condemnation)

CANBERRA -- The Australian senate on Wednesday voted in favor of the bill to legalize same-sex marriage, less than a month after 61.6 percent of Australians voted "yes" in a postal survey asking whether the law should be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry.

Following a morning of intense debate in the Upper House in Canberra, the motion to approve the same-sex marriage bill, introduced by Liberal Senator Dean Smith, was passed by a vote of 43-12.
