KAMPALA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Cranes interim coach Moses Basena named Tuesday the squad that will take part in the regional Council for Eastern and Central African Football Association Cup.

"I have named a strong side because these are the players who have been performing well in the Azam Uganda Premier League," Basena said.

Kenya, which won the event in 2015 in Ethiopia, will host the regional event on Dec. 3-17 in Kakamega, Kisumu and Nakuru.

One of the surprise select is Tanzania-based defender Murushid Juuko, who plays for Simba SC.

Daniel Isiagi, 20, said he is excited to make the grade for the national team.

"I will keep working hard so that I impress the technical bench," said Isiagi, who plays for local side Proline FC.

Uganda are in Group B with Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Burundi and South Sudan. The Cranes will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on Dec. 4.
