LONDON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Kensington Palace announced Tuesday that Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle are to marry at Windsor Castle in May next year.
The announcement came just one day after Clarence House, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall's official residence, released the news of their engagement.
The royal wedding will be held at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, a royal residence in the English county of Berkshire, said Kensington Palace.
On Monday, Prince Harry revealed he had proposed earlier this month during a "standard, typical night for us" at his home in Kensington Palace.
Markle, the 36-year-old star of U.S. television series Suits, has confirmed she will be giving up acting to focus on her new role and put more energy into the causes that are important to her.
The couple's 16-month relationship began in July 2016 when they met on a blind date in London set up through a mutual friend.
They made their first public appearance as a couple in September at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games, a sporting event set up by the prince for injured, wounded, and sick soldiers.
Prince Harry and Markle's engagement represents something genuinely different from everything that has gone before, the Guardian newspaper said Tuesday.
"Their marriage will bring into reality what the British establishment lacked the imagination to conceive of as possible 17 years ago -- that a senior royal can love, marry, someone whose ethnic heritage is not just different to his, but the heritage that has always been most othered in Britain -- black and African," said the major British newspaper.
